Styling Ordered Lists
Posted In: Coding on June 26th, 2008 with 4 CommentsSo a project a came up where I needed to style just the numbers inside the <ol>, although it had to be site wide, every time it was used. My only option was really JavaScript because CSS doesn’t support the styling of its bullets without setting the color in <ol>, then resetting the <li> color.
Here is an example of what the <ol> needs to look like:
<ol style="color: #0088cc"><li><span style="color: #333">XHTML This is a coding service.</span></li><li><span style="color: #333">This is a blog post.</span></li></ol>
There is no problem making it work, but to work on every instance of the <ol>, you need some tweaking. You need the JavaScript to scan the page, for every <ol> and for every <li> inside of it, get the contents and wrap it in a <span> or any other selector you want to use.
Here is the JavaScript:

Good solution, but isn’t it easier to just add the span’s in manually?
Not when you need to use this in an environment (cms), where the people aren’t tech-savvy ;)
